We love our #zengals: MEET JESS!

Mon Mar 19, 2018
Meet Jess. Project Manager and UX Designer at ThinkGeek, and a die-hard Mosaic rider, who is currently training for her second marathon in her hometown: Pittsburgh, PA. Her hubby, Aaron - also a Zengo die-hard, also training for said Marathon in Pittsburgh. Double kudos to the Druck family! However, we're still glowing with girl power, so let's shift the spotlight to Jess. Aaron, we'll tag you in next time. Jess took a light job from Zengo Mosaic to Zengo Logan for a long weekend run. She strolled into the studio with a smile on her face, basking in the sunshine, full of breath, like she had just walked out to get the mail. Her strength, positivity, and nurturing demeanor outshone that sunshine from the instant she walked in.

Hailing from the steel city over a decade ago, Jess, her husband Aaron, and their 4 year-old daughter live in Northern Virginia. Both lovers of Zengo and avid runners, they manage the struggle of juggling full-time work schedules and parenting with perfect coordination, mapping each week out on Sunday so they're sure to fit everything in. Sometimes that means riding back-to-back classes at Mosaic and literally trading their daughter off at home in between!

So, how did Zengo pedal itself into your life and schedule?
After my daughter was born, I got back into running and came to Zengo looking to augment my running with cross-training. Two and a half years later, I'm still coming back for both the workout and the inspiration, and have seen major improvements in my running speed and endurance.  I'm currently training for the Pittsburgh Marathon in May (Aaron is, too!). It will be my second marathon and I'd be lying if I said I'm not terrified. :)

I come to class 2-3 times a week - at least once during the week and once on the weekend.  I love to ride with Cassidy and Kelsey.  They are motivational and totally badass women! (Place hand on heart.)

What's your favorite move on the bike?
I'm a sucker for a super fast jog; they challenge me both mentally and physically and leave me smiling.

Do you have any ROCKSTAR female role models that inspire you?
All of the women in my life - especially the everyday heroes who teach me how to juggle having a full time job with a family, and remind me how important it is to carve out time for myself. I've met some of my closest friends through my running group, Moms RUN This Town Vienna/Oakton... if you're looking for a group of rockstar women to motivate and support you, look no further.

What makes you laugh?
Random references to some of my favorite TV shows (in particular, Arrested Development).  My daughter; four year olds say some really funny and ridiculous stuff.  Also my cats... they have huge personalities and are always doing something crazy.

If you had to eat or drink ONE thing for the rest of eternity, what would it be?
I can't pick just one... Blue Moon, Diet Coke, and Avocados. Not necessarily in that order. ;)

If you could give one piece of advice to all of our #zengals out there, what would it be?
Take advantage of every minute you're in the room - crank it up, push yourself a bit harder.  You can always turn it back down, but you don't know what you're capable of until you try.

What's your superpower?
Being a mom is kind of a superpower - it's the hardest job in the world and comes with no manual, but is the most rewarding!

What does self-love and self-care look like to you?
To me, self-love is not being hard on yourself and appreciating what you're capable of in whatever moment you're in. It's knowing you ARE good enough, and not letting anyone else convince you otherwise. Self-care is finding time to do whatever makes you happy!

Best of luck to you and Aaron in your upcoming race! Thank you for being such an inspiration to all of us.
