JUJU on that beat.Mon Jun 18, 2018
Meet Julia. Aka "Juju". Aka Zengo's newest ROCKSTAR.
Originally from Gaithersburg, Maryland, Julia is currently working toward a Masters degree in Special Education at the University of Maryland, with the hopes of one day teaching a classroom full of "kiddos" of her own!
But. In the meantime, she's bringing the hip hop dance moves to the bike room. And we mean that quite literally.
Julia first discovered Zengo about five years ago, having taken a class with her best friend. But this isnt' necessarily one of those "love at first sight" stories. Rather, she left feeling more uncoordinated than ever, yet still determined. She knew she just needed more practice.
Ok. So what hooked you?
"The no judgment aspect. Everywhere I went, whether the gym or a fitness class, I always found people to compare myself to. It shot me down and exercising just became another way to feel badly about myself. I battled an eating disorder and body image issues for years. Every morning I woke up in a bad mood due to constant stress about food. No one could help me - I felt completely powerless. But, this all changed when I walked into that studio. It was 50 minutes where I had complete control of my thoughts, my body, my mood, my goals.
It was these 50 minutes filled with energy and surrounded by strength that changed my life forever. Even now as an instructor, I strive to take at least two of my fellow bada$$ instructors’ classes per week. Zengo is how I practice self-care, self-love, and most importantly self-acceptance."
One piece of advice for our #zenfam out there...
"All you need is within you." You have to see it, and more importantly, you have to choose it. How you navigate each day is totally up to you. Choose yourself and that's always enough.
Find her on the podium in Kentlands, Bethesda, and Cathedral Commons. #letsride
